The original 1990s layout of this Muirlands estate featured a closed-off, U-shaped kitchen that severely limited entertaining space and blocked the stunning panoramic ocean views. Furthermore, the existing load-bearing walls presented a significant architectural hurdle for opening the space.
The Solution
Our in-house structural engineers designed a custom steel support system, allowing us to safely remove the intrusive walls without compromising the roof load. We then installed custom Amish-crafted white oak cabinetry, extending it flush to the 10-foot ceilings to maximize vertical storage.
To anchor the new open-concept space, we sourced a single, massive slab of Italian quartzite to create a 12-foot waterfall island, serving as both a culinary prep station and a luxury dining focal point.

The transformation is breathtaking. By executing both the complex engineering and the fine finishing in-house, we successfully delivered a sun-drenched, high-performance kitchen that completely redefines the property's value and livability, all while adhering to La Jolla's strict permitting timelines.
